Privacy Policy for VIGIL

VIGIL ("the App") is a surveillance monitoring application that lets you view live and recorded video from your own connected cameras. This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and who to contact with questions.

1. Information We Collect

• Account credentials. The App uses an email/password (or similar) login to authenticate you against our backend. Your password is never stored on your device; only a session/authentication token is stored, in the device's secure keychain storage.
• Camera and stream data. To show you live and recorded video, the App communicates with your assigned camera streaming servers and backend service. Video streams and thumbnails are cached temporarily on your device to improve performance and are cleared when you log out.
• Push notification token (optional). If push notifications are enabled and configured, the App registers a device token with Firebase Cloud Messaging / Apple Push Notification service so it can deliver alerts (for example, motion or offline alerts) to your device. This feature is optional and the App functions without it.
• Device and diagnostic information. Standard technical information (such as device type and operating system version) may be sent to our backend as part of normal network requests, purely to serve and troubleshoot the App.

The App does not collect your precise location, does not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and does not sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

2. How We Use Information

• To authenticate you and keep your session secure.
• To connect you to your cameras and display live/recorded video.
• To deliver optional push notifications you have enabled.
• To maintain, secure, and improve the App and backend service.

3. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following services to function:

• Our backend service, which authenticates users and coordinates access to cameras.
• Camera streaming servers, which deliver live video (HLS) directly to the App.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging / Apple Push Notification service (optional), used only to deliver push notifications if enabled.

These services process data only as necessary to provide the App's functionality.

4. Data Storage and Security

Authentication tokens are stored using the operating system's secure storage (Keychain on iOS, encrypted storage on Android). Video thumbnails and cached stream data are stored locally on your device and are cleared on logout. We take reasonable technical measures to protect data in transit and at rest, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain account and usage data only as long as needed to provide the App's functionality. To request deletion of your account and associated data, email us at sanmiyom@gmail.com and we will process your request within a reasonable time.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
